  4. Where in the world is a rift valley? There are quite few of active rift valley in the world, these are the East African Rift, the Baikal Rift Valley, the West Antarctic Rift, and the Rio Grande Rift.
  5. What happens where an oceanic plate converges with a continental plate?
a.The denser oceanic plate slides on top of the less dense continental plate.
b.The denser oceanic plate slides under the less dense continental plate.

  10. What is the lithosphere?  The Lithosphere is the rigid layer of the Earth’s crust.
  11. What are the layers of the lithosphere? The lithosphere includes the brittle upper portion of the mantle and the crust, the outermost layers of Earth’s structure.
  12. What are convection currents? Convection currents transfer heat from one place to another by mass motion of a fluid such as water, air or molten rock. When the fluid molecules are heated, the fluid becomes larger and lighter.
  13. Which layer of the lithosphere do convection currents occur in? Convection currents occurs in Earth’s mantle.
  14. How do convection currents relate to continental drift? The convection currents affect the continental drift by the heat from the core makes magma in the mantle rise towards the crust. As the hot current nears the crust, it begins to cool and sink back towards the core. As the magma sinks, it drags the plates across the surface of the Earth.
  15. Which plates are New Zealand on? New Zealand is in the edge of both Australian and Pacific tectonic plates.
  16. What type of plate boundary is New Zealand on? New Zealand is in a convergent boundary.
  17. How do we scientists know? Scientists know what type of plate boundaries a certain place is standing by how their lands are formed.

Fast (throwing) Fashion

Explain why it is called fast fashion?

The tons of clothes that people buy that are usually designed to last for a while are quickly getting discarded after paying for it for a low price, ending in landfills.

Where does most of the fast fashion end up?

Most fast fashion clothes end up as a landfill  all over the world, mostly in Africa and Dubai.

Do you think that social media and advertising make people more tempted to buy new clothes?explain.

Yes, I believe that people get more tempted to buy new clothes whenever they see it on the media and advertisement. We can’t deny that we get tempted by the things we see on the internet especially when it looks so useful or somewhat beautiful in our eyes. It’s like there is this urge that if we see something nice, we suddenly want to have it.

Explain what rent the runway is trying to do.

The rent the runway is trying to save people’s money by providing them with designer clothes by just renting them at an affordable price. According to them, they are also  aiming to save the environment by not only help us lessen waste and our carbon footprint, but they also provide a number of advantages for passengers by renting clothing rather than purchasing it, we can lessen the negative environmental effects of the fast fashion industry.

Explain what Patagonia is trying to do?

Patagonia is trying to help people keep their clothes longer by fixing them, reducing the throwaway clothes.

Health: Consequences of drug use + key concepts

Consequences of drug use + key concepts

                    Marijuana

Marijuana is one of the most abused drugs in the world. There is an ever-growing gap between the latest science about marijuana and the myths surrounding it. Some people think that since it is legal in some places, it must be safe. But your body doesn’t know a legal drug from an illegal drug. It only knows the effect the drug creates once you have taken it. The purpose of this publication is to clear up some of the misunderstandings about pot.

ΔMarijuana use comes with real risks that can impact a person’s health and life. Here are a few of them.

1.  Marijuana can cause permanent IQ loss of as much as 8 points when people start using it at a young age. These IQ points do not come back, even after quitting marijuana.

which area of wellbeing it relate to? In mind.

Is it a short term or long term consequence? Long term consequences.

Is it  a positive or negative consequence? Negative consequences.

identify if it is P,I OR S. P (personal).

2. Studies link marijuana use to depression, anxiety, suicide planning, and psychotic episodes. It is not known, however, if marijuana use is the cause of these conditions.

which area of wellbeing it relate to? In mental health.

Is it a short term or long term consequence.  Long term consequences.

Is it a positive or negative consequence? Negative consequences.

4.People who drive under the influence of marijuana can experience dangerous effects: slower reactions, lane weaving, decreased coordination, and difficulty reacting to signals and sounds on the road.

which area of wellbeing it relate to? In body/brain.

it is a short term or long term consequence. Short term consequence.

Is it a positive or negative consequence? Negative consequences.

5. Marijuana use during pregnancy may cause fetal growth restriction, premature birth, stillbirth, and problems with brain development, resulting in hyperactivity and poor cognitive function. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and other chemicals from marijuana can also be passed from a mother to her baby through breast milk, further impacting a child’s healthy development.

Genetic Drift Lab

Genetic Drift Lab:

This week in Science class, we discussed the evolution of preying mantises using M&M’s to represent its new population.

  1. Does the new genetic drift population accurately represent the original population? Explain by citing your data.
No, it does not. The new genetic population of preying mantises is lower than the original population caused by the hurricane.
  2. Does this activity demonstrate evolution? Why or why not? Yes it does! Evolution shows us the development or the change of a living organism through time.
  3. Does this activity demonstrate natural  selection? Why or why not?  Base on their new population, this species got lower population than the initial but the fact that some of the different colors increased by numbers then I can say that they did demonstrated a natural selection.
  4. What type of genetic drift is shown in this ativity? How can you tell? The type of genetic drift shown in the activity was the bottleneck event that is when a population suffers a sudden catastrophic decline and is repopulated by a small group of survivors. We can see that some of the colors died out and some repopulated with their small  group.
